Make-A-Wish Foundation

Chi Omega’s national philanthropy is Make-A-Wish. Each year, Phi Delta raises money for our “Wish Kid” to receive the wish of his or her dreams! In 2019, we were able to send Danica Duston, a spunky five year old from Columbus, MS, to Disney World! We hosted three events for Danica, kicking off the week with our annual Dishes for Wishes. Students across campus gathered at the Chi Omega house for Taco Tuesday! Wednesday Night we hosted a Worship Night, using this time to encourage and refuel our girls and MSU students during the midweek lull. We held our annual Limelight fundraising event on Friday night. After spending weeks practicing, 22 sororities and fraternities competed a themed dance routine in the Humphrey Coliseum, entertaining Danica and over 3,000 guests, making this event the largest philanthropic event hosted by a sorority! Through these three events, Phi Delta was able to raise $30,000 for Make-A-Wish!

Although wishes looked a little different in 2020, we were still able to give Jade the shopping spree of her dreams! You can read more about Jade’s story above in “Virtual Wish Week 2020”, and check out our 2019 and 2020 Wish Week photo gallery below!

Brickfire Project

For the past three years, Phi Delta has been encouraging and supporting The Brickfire Project. Brickfire is an after school program for at-risk youth in the Starkville community. Each day, MSU student mentors are paired with these children, ages 4 through 15, and are able to spend time building trusting relationships as they walk through life in a challenging environment. A large majority of these mentors are Chi Omegas, but outside of mentoring, the Phi Delta chapter has served Brickfire through cleanup days, multiple fundraisers, letter drives, and more. The children at The Brickfire Project have been able to receive new toys, academic books and games, new furniture, and outdoor activities through the fundraising organized by Chi Omega.

Leadership Through Service

Chi Omega views service as one of our founding principles, which is why we partner with both national and local philanthropies. Through service and involvement, the women of Phi Delta are able to develop strong leadership skills, a giving heart, and intentional relationships. We serve others on-campus in organizations such as Dresses of Hope and No Longer Bound, internationally through various organizations on mission trips, and within Greek Life by supporting other philanthropic events, including Watermelon Fest, Derby Days, Charity Bowl and more! One of our alumni members even began the Hands and Feet organization on Mississippi State’s campus. We also serve those within our community by providing essentials, like making care packages for local cancer patients and hosting a food drive for Bully’s Closet and Pantry. Below is just a glimpse of what it means to be a Chi Omega.
